ABOUT THE EVENT

Want to turn your summer into a real edge on your resume? In this BALSA workshop, we walked through the main paths to landing summer programs, both in the U.S. and in Brazil, and how to use that experience to accelerate your academic and professional path.

We covered the main types of opportunities, from REUs and summer research to industry internships across biotech, health, tech, and innovation, and research projects in Brazil through direct contact with labs and professors. We compared how selection works in the U.S. (structured applications, CV, personal statement, recommendation letters) with how to land opportunities in Brazil (cold emails, academic networking, and strategic communication), plus strategies to strengthen your application and make the most of the summer.

We also shared where to find openings, including the BALSA portal, NSF REU, LinkedIn, Handshake, university sites, research groups, and academic networks.
