A historic event for BALSA, held in English
ABOUT THE EVENT
On October 1, 2025, BALSA hosted a historic conversation with one of the most influential figures in contemporary science: Dr. Katalin Karikó, winner of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery that made mRNA vaccines possible.
For decades, Dr. Karikó faced skepticism and scarce resources in her work on messenger RNA. Today her contribution is recognized worldwide as a milestone of modern biotechnology, with direct impact on the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the future of personalized medicine.
In this open conversation, she shared her path, the story behind the discovery, and her vision for the future of science, in an event for the Brazilian community of researchers, students, and life-sciences professionals. The event was held in English.
