Wine & Theses
A conversation about scientific trajectory, international careers, biotech entrepreneurship, and inclusion in STEM
ABOUT THE EVENT
Behind every published article lies a journey full of twists and turns, doubts, turning points, and a wealth of learning to share. "Wine & Theses" is an event for those who love science but also enjoy a good conversation over wine (or tea, or coffee, juice... here, the drink is yours; the conversation is ours).
In this edition, BALSA welcomed Dr. Marcia Fournier, manager of the Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research Program, part of the NIH Common Fund.
Marcia earned her doctorate from the Universidade do Rio de Janeiro and carried out her doctoral research in oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Along the way, she also founded and led Bioarray Genetics Inc., a biotech company specializing in genetic profiling for cancer treatment protocols.
Beyond her work in research, innovation, and scientific management, Marcia is a founder and board member of Dimensions Sciences, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the inclusion of underrepresented communities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The conversation covered scientific careers, professional transitions, entrepreneurship, leadership, social impact, and the paths available to Brazilians building their careers in science in the United States.
